Keep the privacy promises narrow, specific, and verifiable.

Veil is designed to do most of its work on your Mac. This page explains what stays local, what touches network services, and what Veil cannot determine.

Launch promise: no analytics or telemetry in the app. Network activity is limited to configured Sparkle update checks and Lemon Squeezy licensing for Pro.

What stays local

  • Permission scanning and local app state inspection
  • Session history stored by the app
  • Saved app policies and Sensitive Session results
  • Local process management and restoration evidence
  • Diagnostics: preview first, then copy or export only when you choose

What touches network services

  • Hosted checkout and receipts via Lemon Squeezy
  • License activation, validation, and deactivation for Pro
  • Configured Sparkle update checks when updates are enabled

What is not part of the launch app

  • No analytics SDKs
  • No ad targeting or tracking pixels in the app
  • No cloud account required to use the Free tier
  • No packet inspection, proxy, VPN, or network-traffic observation
  • No determination of whether another app is actively observing you
  • No automatic diagnostic upload; license secrets remain in Keychain

Understand the limits

Veil's source repositories are private. Permission capability, a recorded grant, and a running process are different evidence; none proves active surveillance. Local diagnostics explain recorded actions and results without uploading your app inventory.
